Launching My Blog
I came to India in August on the Fulbright and have had some amazing experiences. A lot of people have asked me to write a blog so that they can hear about the work I’m doing here…I didn’t think I had the drive to keep something up regularly but over the past few months I’ve realized that a lot of my thoughts and experiences if documented properly would collectively make a great story that I could go on and share with lots of people…not to mention I bought my own domain name and have to use it for something! I have also been clicking a lot of pictures with my D-SLR so I will be putting these up online too! I welcome your comments…
About me:
I graduated in May 2008 from Yale University with a BA degree in Medical Anthropology and South Asian Studies. As a 2008-2009 U.S. Fulbright Scholar, I am spending part of this year researching the challenges facing child-headed households at the National AIDS Research Institute, Pune, India. My previous research projects supported by Yale fellowships have included 1) “The Role of Elderly Caregivers in Responding to the Indian HIV/AIDS Crisis” in Maharashtra, India with NARI support and 2) “The Origins, Evolution, and Technical Aspects of Bhangra Dance” in Punjab, India. Last summer, I worked with the Society for Community Organization in Hong Kong to study the plight of elderly ethnic minorities and lobby to reform the welfare system for asylum seekers. Previously, I worked on global ageing policy at the Ageing and Life Course Programme, World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland and completed the Intramural Research Training Award fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA.
